Inspired by a quote from Trip Hawkins, the founder of EA and an Advisor to the NativeX Board, we are relaunchingthe NativeX blog as the “Institute of Virtual Economies.”
Trip was discussing the complexity of virtual economies in F2P games to a packed house at GDC 2013 when he said, “There really ought to be an institute for studying virtual economies. If I can beat your game with strategy, I don’t need to buy anything in it. It’s about thinking about your game like you’re the merchandising manager at Bloomingdale’s. Once you have made a game that has good lifetime value, then you can afford to buy marketing.”
The panel was moderated by VentureBeat’s Dean Takahashi and it included NativeX Co-Founder Rob Weber, SkyVu Founder Ben Vu, Tim Merel of Digi-Capital, and Trip Hawkins. Click here to read Dean’s takeaways from the panel.
What is the Institute of Virtual Economies?
Our goal with the Institute of Virtual Economies is to provide insight for game developers to help them build smarter games. You will find articles about F2P game design, freemium business model best practices, reports about the mobile games industry, and other tips for optimizing the engagement, retention, and monetization of mobile games.
How can you get involved?
The Institute of Virtual Economies includes an occasional Ask Me Anything (AMA) with the NativeX Games Task Force. The latest AMA answered the question “Now that Unity is free, how will this affect game developers?” If you would like to submit a question to the Games Task Force for the next AMA, you can do so by emailing contact@nativeX.com or you can subscribe to the NativeX newsletter to receive these updates in your inbox.
Interested in having your F2P game reviewed?
The NativeX Games Task Force provides highly specialized 1:1 mentoring and user acquisition funding to qualified members of our Xcelerate Program to help them turn their games into successful businesses. If you would like to partner with the NativeX Games Task Force.
