I’ve been blogging for over five years with my insights and commentary on the ever-changing world of apps and games. In this post, I wanted to share my favorite “Go-To” sources that I regularly visit for news and opinions impacting the app industry. Since mobile games are often where the biggest innovations come from, I have also included blogs that are specifically focused on games.

Top 7 Sources
VentureBeat

(http://www.venturebeat.com) – Lead writer for GamesBeat, Dean Takahashi, along with the entire GamesBeat and MobileBeat staff do an absolutely world class job covering the mobile app world. Coverage ranges from major news on key mobile industry players to thoughtful research pieces on trends impacting the app space. There was a time where my first place to check in was TechCrunch (http://techcrunch.com). Over the more recent years, that has shifted to VentureBeat. They produce some of the best events worldwide to learn and network too.

Gamasutra

(http://www.gamasutra.com) In addition to outstanding first party coverage, blog editor Christian Nutt organizes the top collection of independent game developer blog posts in the biz. The volume of quality game industry content is unmatched, especially the post-mortems.

PocketGamer.Biz

(http://www.pocketgamer.biz) – Chris James, Jon Jordan, and the full team from Steel Media provide excellent commentary on what is going on in the mobile gaming industry. The personality and life they bring to their writing is also very refreshing- it is the game space after all.

MobyAffiliates

(http://www.mobyaffiliates.com) If you are looking for a comprehensive list and review of vendors commonly used by developers in the app space, look no further than MobyAffiliates.

AdExchanger’s Mobile/Cross Device Coverage

(http://adexchanger.com/mobile/) – So much of the app world is influenced by advertising. Advertising is the primary way free apps are being monetized and discovered. Associate editor Allison Schiff and team provide a truly insider’s look on the world of mobile advertising.

MacRumors

(http://www.macrumors.com) Apple is the 800-pound gorilla in the app world, so keeping tabs on Apple is very important. MacRumors is the best source for discovering information about what’s happening on iOS.

GamesIndustry

(http://www.gamesindustry.biz/) – If you want to keep track of who is getting funded, who is starting up, who is shutting down, and a whole lot more, be sure to check this blog out as well.
