Partnering with a controversial and social media savvy celebrity like Kim Kardashian can save game developers hundreds of thousands of dollars in user acquisition. You have an immediate advantage over other games because of the likeness of the celebrity, their ability to promote your game, and the impact their brand has on editors from the various app stores who like to feature games with popular figures.
This strategy can also backfire because celebrities are really expensive and some of them might not be receptive to your ideas. They also might get caught up in a scandal right after you release the game. With that said, the astronomical success of Glu’s Kim Kardashian: Hollywood has more developers thinking about creative ways to leverage the popularity of celebrities.
To help you get your creativity flowing for your next hit game, I put together a list of six celebrity games I would like to play.
Elon Musk Meets CityVille
My first choice for a new celebrity game is an Elon Musk simulation game. The story would play off of Musk’s success as an entrepreneur in various industries including finance, transportation, and energy. The story would take place in Silicon Valley and the gameplay would be similar to Zynga’s CityVille but with graphics that are less cartoony. You would start as an up-and-coming “mini-entrepreneur” and Elon Musk would guide you as you build your empire.
Lebron James Meets Madden Franchise Mode
Lebron James could be featured in a simulation game where you are playing the role of an NBA General Manager. Your goal is to build up your basketball franchise and “suck up” to Lebron James in order to recruit him to your team. The story would start with his decision to leave the basketball team in his hometown after struggling through the tutorial. The result would be a plane ticket to Miami. As the player, you work to improve your team and convince him to come back. Along the way, you have to pick up other free agents to make your franchise more attractive, while managing the salary cap so you will have room for Lebron and his super sized salary – now that he has collected a couple championships.
Honey Boo Boo Meets My Talking Tom
I would love to see Outfit7 reskin My Talking Tom with Honey Boo Boo. My Talking Tom is a fun and cute game that is full of surprises. Replacing the cuddly kitten with a humorous character like Honey Boo Boo would be inherently viral and destined for a run at the top of the charts.
Simon Cowell Meets Sing Karaoke & High School Story
In this karaoke game, Simon Cowell would provide you with feedback and a score for your performance, similar to Smule’s “Sing! Karaoke.” Adding a deeper story to the karaoke aspect, kind of like High School Story by Pixelberry, Simon would play the role of a music talent scout and coach.
Tyra Banks Meets Kim Kardashian: Hollywood & Covert Fashion
Much like Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, Tyra Banks would help you become a top runway model. Instead of increasing your popularity, you’re modeling clothes on your journey to becoming the world’s most famous model, similar to Crowdstar’s Covert Fashion game.
Justin Bieber Meets Streaker Run
Fluik could easily clone their hit Streaker Run with Justin Bieber. The game would be a satirical endless runner that starts with Bieber trying to avoid getting arrested for petty crimes. Other levels could include him running from paparazzi and teenage girls.
There are many celebrities out there that would be great fits for mobile games, like a sequel to Kim Kardashian: Hollywood with Kanye West. If you have any ideas, share them in the comments below or Tweet it to me@robertjweber.
